![]() Best Binge for a Buck A dollar in your pocket, lust for chocolate in your heart -- why settle for a boring slab of Hershey's? Take your yearnings over to XOX Truffles, a tiny storefront in North Beach where five buttery-rich truffles, each about the size of a grape, will cost you just a dollar. No bulky, hood ornament-sized shell of chocolate will keep you from the good stuff. Instead, slip directly into pure, deep, cocoa-dusted chocolate bliss, gently kissed with a range of flavors from Earl Grey (a citrusy hint of bergamot) to crme de menthe, cognac, and framboise. Other flavors -- French roast, rum raisin, noisette -- are rolled in crushed hazelnuts, coffee crunch, or shredded coconut. Owners Casmira Tobilla and Jean-Marc Gorce (he cooks; she sells), who opened their shop last October, also offer great gift packages: hand-painted tea cups and bowls filled to the brim with truffles. 754 Columbus, S.F. (415) 421-4814. |
